Chew's face appear blue after crying
On May 24, 2023, baby Chew Cheng Rui came into the world. Healthy with no disabilities until he was 5 months old. The doctor diagnosed him with a life-threatening heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, which consists of four heart defects:
*Narrowing of the pulmonary artery (the artery that carries blood from the heart to the lungs)
*A ventricular septal defect (a large hole in the wall between two sides of the heart)
*An overriding (misplaced) aorta (the artery that carries blood to the body)
*A thickened lower-right side of the heart
All of these defects add up to poor blood flow between the heart and lungs and less oxygen-rich blood going to the brain and body. This explains why Chew's oxygen dropped to 85%.
Without surgery, baby Chew cannot survive.

Babies with severe TOF often have cyanosis - a blue or purple tint to the baby's skin, lips, and fingernails. Commonly, every time he is crying his face will appear pale and bluish.
A remarkable surgery gives a future to baby Chew and improves his heart and lung function.
